Part IV

Monosyllabic Words


Obviously, these words do  not present any problems for you becouse, when pronounced in isolation, they receive the primary stress on their only syllable. Notice that we donot show the stress of monosyllabic words.

When part of sentence, monosyllabic content words are pronounced with full forms of vowels whereas monosyllabic function words are normally pronounced with the weak forms of vowels.

The vowels of monosyllabic function words are pronounced fully in two contexts:
a. when the words appears ina sentence-final
b. word stress had some characteristic.
