Social Function

To describe the way things are, with reference to range of natural, manmade and social phenomena in our environment.

Generic (schematic) Structure

  • General classification; tell what the phenomena under discussion is.
  • Description; tell what the phenomea under discussion is like in terms of 
  1. parts (and their functions)
  2. qualities
  3. habits or behaviours, if living, uses, if non natural


Significant Lexicogrammatical Features

  • Focus on generic Participants
  • Use of Relational processes 
  • use of simple present tense
  • No temporal sequence
